Statistics
Forty-six percent of Colorado credit unions are state chartered and regulated by the Colorado Division of Financial Services and a five-member Division of Financial Services Board. The remaining credit unions are federally chartered and regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA) in Washington, D.C. And because all Colorado credit unions are federally insured, they are also reviewed by the NCUA.

The largest proportion (43.83 percent) of credit unions have less than $10 million in assets. However, many credit unions are much larger, and encompass the bulk of credit union membership. Larger credit unions may have several offices, automated teller machines and additional outreach efforts that allow them to serve their membership in the most effective means possible.

* All federal and state-chartered credit unions in Colorado are federally insured by the National Credit Union Administration, an agency of the U.S. government, up to $100,000 per member.
