Friedrich Wilhelm Raiffeisen established peoples banks in Germany. |
| 1908: |
St. Mary's Bank (La Caisse Populaire de Sainte Marie) opened in Manchester, New Hampshire - the first U.S. credit union. It received a charter on April 6, 1909. |
| 1921: |
Credit Union National Extension Bureau formed with Roy F. Bergengren as director.
Funded by Filene. Objectives: Get the laws, organize credit unions, form state leagues,
and create a national association. |
| 1934: |
- On June 26 the Federal Credit Union Act signed into law by President Franklin D.
Roosevelt.
- Colorado Credit Union League formed (now known as the Credit Union Association of
Colorado |
| 1935: |
CUNA Mutual Insurance Society was created. |
| 1948: |
CUNA Board of Directors voted the third Thursday of October as Credit Union Day –
celebrated continuously since that time. |
| 1970: |
World Council of Credit Unions formed. |
| 1974: |
U.S. Central Credit Union established. |

Colorado Corporate Federal Credit Union (now SunCorp) was formed. |
